Soul is unseen..
But we cant survive without it..
Once departed from the body.. we are dead...
Where it goes.. how it travels.. Does it travel at all..
Every religion has its methods and ceremonies to be performed according to their basics.
Whatever may be the methods.. all accept that soul exists.

So dear friends..
According to Hindu mythology...
After death... Soul moves around its body.. family members and the house
Various ceremonies are performed like Third Day Ceremony.... Nineth Day Ceremony.. Eleventh Day Ceremony.. (note: all base numbers)
The mantras chanted during these ceremonies show the right path to the soul to leave the earthy abodes and move heavenwards..
ITz believed that One Human Year is One Day for the Souls World...
Hence we perform Samvatsareekam..
here we come to the importance of Pitrupaksham..

According to Mythology.. During this Pitrupaksham..  Lord of Death... Yama.. allows the souls to visit their earthy members of the family. They are allowed to accept the offerings of their kith and kin and Bless them.. Then return to the Souls World. And CROW is taken to be the bird that takes these food offerings and pass them to the souls.. Hence most of the Hindus perform various ceremonies during this fifteen days of Pitrupaksham

Strange it may seem.. Fact is Greater than Fiction.. We have to have Faith to Believe and Benefit from it.
